Scouts

Scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team, and participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life. Being outdoors is important, and a large part of the Scouting programme at 2nd Wallingford Scouts is given over to taking part in traditional Scouting skills, which include:

  • Camping
  • Survival and cooking
  • Wide games
  • Night hikes
  • and a wide spectrum of adventurous activities

The 2nd Wallingford Scout Group has two Scout Troops for boys and girls aged 10½ to 14 years, which meet at the 2nd Wallingford Scout Hut;

SILVATICA – which meets on Monday evenings 7.00pm to 9.00pm

INFERNO – which meets on Thursday evenings 7.00pm to 9.00pm

Priority is given to Cubs wishing to continue in the Scouting movement but places are sometimes available for new starters. To add your child to our waiting list, please email your details (child’s name, contact details and date of birth) to membership@2ndwallingfordscouts.org.uk. To view a copy of our waiting list policy, please click here.

Similarly, we are always looking for new volunteers so if any parents would like to help in the running of the Scout Pack on an occasional or regular basis, please contact membership@2ndwallingfordscouts.org.uk in the first instance and we will contact you to discuss how you can get involved.

USEFUL INFORMATION

Uniforms – All Scouts, once invested, wear a burgundy and white necker, a green shirt, blue trousers and black shoes.. Uniform can either be bought from your local District Scout Shop which is open at the Scout Hut on certain dates or on-line at Scout Shops. Section Leaders will provide Scouts with a woggle to keep their necker together. It is not possible to buy individual neckers from the Scout Shop online.

Badges – For details on where to sew your Scout badges, please visit http://scouts.org.uk/media/82123/Scout-uniform.pdf

Subs/Membership Fees – You will receive email requests for subs via Online Scout Manager (OSM).

If you have not completed a Gift Aid form, please ask for one. Camps are charged separately. Cost however should not be a barrier to anyone taking part in Scouting and if this is an issue, you can speak to the local Section Leader in confidence.

Half of these funds are sent to the District and Central Headquarters to keep the Scouting infrastructure running.

With the sum that remains, the Scout Leaders provide badges once they have been earned and all the materials to make each Section night fun and interesting e.g. food, materials for experiments etc.
